How To Play
Home
Learn the rules
Connect the two actors in as few valid steps as you can, then compare your score with everyone else playing that day.
The goal
Build a valid path between the two actors using alternating actors and movies.
Actor
Movie
Actor
Movie
Actor
Your final path always starts on the first actor and ends on the second actor.
Rules
• Each step must alternate actor, movie, actor, movie, actor.
• Every movie in your path must include the actor before it and the actor after it.
• Only your submitted path counts, so invalid guesses still cost time and score.
Worked example
A valid chain can be very short if the two actors are connected closely.
Keira Knightley
Love Actually
Alan Rickman
This counts as 2 steps because there is 1 movie between the two actors.
Using the path builder
Add one step at a time and build from left to right until the two actors connect.
• Choose a movie when you need a title that connects to the current actor.
• Choose an actor when you need a cast member from the current movie.
• Search helps you find names quickly. It is not a hint and does not add score.
Scoring
score = step count + extra guesses + hint cost
• Lower score is better.
• Each step in your final path adds 1 point.
• Every submitted guess after the first adds 1 point.
• Hints add score penalties.
Example
4 steps + 2 extra guesses + 1 hint point = 7 points
Hints
Hints reveal information, but they never solve the puzzle for you.
Reveal step count
Shows the minimum number of steps in the correct solution.
Reveal actor
Shows the correct actor for the current position in the chain.
Reveal movie
Shows the correct movie for the current position in the chain.
Hints always increase your score, so they help you finish but rarely improve your standing.
After you solve
Everyone gets the same daily puzzle, so every solve lands on the same board.
• Compare your score with the daily leaderboard once you finish.
• Use archives to replay past matchups and see how earlier boards turned out.
• Come back tomorrow for a new pair of actors and a fresh board.
